You get can a 1TB USB 3.1 Flash Drive for under $350, giving you room to store all your files in the palm of your hand. We review the new “Flash Voyager GTX” premium Flash Drive from Corsair.
There is a lot to like about this Flash Drive.
Let’s start with the capacity – it’s 1TB (that’s one thousand GigaBytes!). And that is HUGE. It’s true that the Kingston Digital 2TB DataTraveler Ultimate GT is the largest you can get in a retail / commercial device, and those are still hard to get ( and pricey at around $1,250).
We really like the price – at around $350 to $375, you can order the Corsair CMFVYGTX3C-1TB Flash Voyager GTX on Amazon and have it delivered the same day. Sweet!
Marketed as a “Premium Flash Drive”, the USB 3.1 Gen 1 interface does deliver some premium transfer rates – 440MB/sec Read and 440MB/sec Write. It’s unusual for USB Drives to have same (or even close) speeds for both read and write, but in this case it’s a good thing to be symmetrically fast.
The USB 3.1 is backwards compatible to 3.0 and 2.0, but you’ll see performance drop off if you use the older standards (since those don’t support the newer, higher rates).
Also worth mentioning is the Kingston Digital 2TB DataTraveler Ultimate GT if you really need the storage capacity, and have the budget to spend about $1,200. It’s also a USB 3.1/3.0 drive, with impressive Read Speeds of 300MB/s, and Write Speeds of 200MB/s.
