Fitbit Not Helping, Try Pavlok

Fitbit or Pavlok - Which is best for you?
Fitbit or Pavlok – Which is best for you?

The Fitbit is great for tracking your daily activity and giving you a reminder when you haven’t reached your step goals for the hour. But if a gentle buzz on your wrist isn’t enough to get you moving, then you might want to look at “Pavlok”. The creators of Pavlok claim this wrist device is “the smart wearable that breaks bad habits”.

It’s a behavior training device. Similar to Fitbit, it vibrates to reward you for good behavior. Unlike Fitbit, it administers an electric stimulus (e.g, a mild shock) to train away bad behavior. The zap can be administered in two ways: Manually, by pressing the lightning bolt on the wristband or zap button on the phone app or automatically through one of the integration settings for the device (Note: this is for advanced users only).

One interesting Pavlok app is the novel alarm clock for people that really have a hard time getting out of bed in the morning. It can also train your brain to wake you up before the alarm goes off. Here’s how the three setting levels work, depending on how difficult it is for you to wake up, or how important it is not to oversleep (don’t want to miss your flight, zap!)
‘Vibration Only’ is a silent alarm clock, gently vibrating your wrist awake at your chosen time.
‘Vibrate then zap’ will gently vibrate you awake – but make sure you get up quickly! In less then a minute, the Alarm Clock will begin to zap you.
‘Zap only’ will wake you up with a zap – immediately

How does Pavlock compare with the Fitbit, here are the key specs to consider:
Amazon Buy: Pavlok – $199.99 vs. Alta – $128.95
Colors: Black, Red, Blue, Grey, Pink vs.Black, Blue, Plum, Teal
Weight (ounces) 2.4 vs. 1.1
Water Resistant: Yes & Yes
Functionality: Behavior Modification vs. Health & Fitness

The Pavlok is bulkier and more expensive, but delivers the one thing Fitbit does not: An electric jolt.
